Fine, Kill Your Baby, But Don’t Make Me Help

Uncle Sam Squandering Taxpayer DollarsThe proposed Health Care “Reform” law includes, apparently, the taxpayer funding of abortion somewhere in its thousands of pages. But many taxpayers believe abortion is murder.

Abortion may need to be legal, but this doesn’t mean that people who oppose it can be justly forced to pay for it.

The first amendment protects, in essence, our freedom of conscience. Certainly in regard to religious beliefs.

It’s ironic that abortionists like to say that abortion should be legal because of religious freedom; Some portion of those against abortion oppose it on religious grounds…

To the extent that religion is the motivation behind opposing abortion, the first amendment therefore bans government funding of abortion, because one should not be forced to violate their own religion.

Now I’m agnostic, and like Thomas Jefferson regarding slavery, I believe abortion cannot be banned, even though it’s the killing of a human baby…but despite those things, it is clear to me that forcing people who believe abortion is murder to fund that killing would be a holocaust-level evil.

An Evil Hate Crimes Law

Ron Karenga, klansmanIn what way is the new hate crimes legislation evil?

In what way is it not?

  • Hate crime laws violate the first amendment’s protection of freedom of expression and conscience. You have a right to hate someone, and to express that; you just aren’t allowed to murder them, regardless of the reason.
  • Hate crime laws belittle actual crimes. Instead of murder being the ultimate evil, murdering with politically incorrect intentions is treated as if it were somehow, magically, worse. In reality, murder is equally wrong and evil, no matter what your motivation. If anything, murdering people at random is surely worse for society as a whole.
  • What’s more, this law was passed through fraud. Enough Americans oppose such evil laws that corrupt politicians had failed to pass any, for the past decade…until they snuck it into a massive military spending bill, defrauding the American people, and illustrating why no Congresscritter should be allowed to vote for any bill they have not read, completely, themselves.

What the Liberals (Democrats and RiNOs) have proven, in passing this law, is that they are dishonest and corrupt, sneaking legislation through when they know America would oppose it, and that they despise American freedoms enough to do so even when the first amendment is at stake, and that they are sociopathic enough not to care that this undermines the basic morality against actual violent crimes.

Where the Hell Are Medical Savings Accounts?

chained caduceusThe actual problem with our failing health care system is that consumers have no control over it. Already, too much is paid for by middlemen like insurance companies and government. If Americans only paid 5% of their food bills, a cheeseburger would cost fifty bucks, too.

Why are people handing off control of their health care to middlemen? Because government imposes massive taxes on them, and then “rewards” them, with tax breaks, for paying needless insurance companies to cover their well-care, checkups, and minor problems while charging them triple what those will cost.

If you say “screw that, boss, I’ll take the cash instead of the health insurance”, you’re forced to pay taxes on the money, when the insurance was pre-tax.

The solution? (aside from cutting the massive tax burden)

Medical Savings Accounts.

Instead of giving the money to a middleman insurance company, you get to keep it yourself, to save for any medical needs. It is not taxed, and once you accumulate enough to cover any predictable needs, you roll the rest over into a retirement account each year. Meanwhile, you by a very cheap catastrophic insurance plan, that only covers unexpected, rare disasters like cancer and falling in a wood chipper. These can cost only a fraction of a harmful full-coverage plan.

This gives you control over your own health care, the ONLY way to cut costs. It also allows you to save for your retirement, freeing you from depending on the ridiculous, doomed social security system that will NOT be there when even Gen X retires.

Why do we not have this?

Ask your congressman.

They ARE Whores…and Real Republicans Know That

n637688546_475677_861All this hue and cry about Alan Grayson calling some Enron lobbyist a K-Street Whore just helps separate the neocons from the true Conservatives.

If anything, an actual believer in limited government would find whore to be too kind a term, or the comparison degrading to actual prostitutes.

As usual, the neocons must depend on personal hatemongering, not issues, because they are actually as corrupt and fond of big government as any other kind of Liberal. So while Conservatives can take apart Grayson on the issues, neocons and other RiNOs just act offended that he dared criticize a lobbyist.

This is their standard mode of operation. While honest people criticize Obama on being a socialist, the neocons are more likely to attack him as stupid, or being a smoker, or the birth certificate nonsense…anything but actual issues, where in fact they are as Liberal as he is.

Here, we see another version of the same thing. We should not tolerate or repeat such nonsense, but separate ourselves from the politicians and talk show hosts who perpetrate it.

Pilot Error Illustrates a Danger of Regulation

6368_103375863546_637688546_2260711_1637425_n
When a passenger flight recently overflew its destination by 150 miles (which, hyperbole aside, is only about 15 minutes), the first assumption on everyone’s part seemed to be that the pilots were asleep at the wheel.

While this appears to have been wrong, it brings to light more than how foolish media speculation tends to be.

It is a great example of how government “safety” regulations make things more dangerous, not safer.

The FAA, unlike private ventures, does not adapt to changing demands, except when forced to. It continues, in this case, to impose a dangerous rule that became outdated before most of us were born: Pilots are not allowed to choose to nap, in a safe and organized way, despite the presence of co-pilots, autopilots, computerized navigation, et cetera.

As with most arbitrary prohibition, the consequence is actually more of exactly what the rule tries to avoid: Pilots cannot have small naps when they need them, and thus end up so tired they either fall asleep, or take illegal naps.

This is why most foreign airlines do allow their pilots to nap on long flights…another example of “free” America actually having a more repressive, socialist government on some issues than the openly collectivist nations.

In fact, most regulations intended for “health”, and “safety” have exactly this same bad effect…they set into stone what was the absolute minimum, oldest standard at the time of their establishment. Quickly, this becomes MORE dangerous than leaving people free to choose haphazardly on their own.

As always, liberty is superior not only in principle, but even in practical application.

CEO Salaries: More Bailout Failure

I am opposed to socialism. It always does more harm than good. But I will not defend the executives of the companies that stole three hundred billion dollars from the US taxpayer. They opened the door to the nationalization of their companies, and the socialist Obama administration is simply following up on the precedent, just as they are following up on Bush’s socialist precedents.

Yes, the CEO compensation plan WILL cripple those companies, making them less likely to survive. But that’s what they get, for their robber baron status. The problem is the original socialist violation of the marketplace, not the cascade-effect it sets off.

We need to ban any more unconstitutional bailouts, not waste our breath objecting to its inevitable destruction of the companies who already bribed our government to get it.

Pakistan is Our Enemy

I’m watching the neocons and other Liberals on a pundit shouting show talk about how important Pakistan’s national security is to the US. This is like saying that the good-feeling properties of smoking tobacco are vital to the health of someone suffering from emphysema.

Pakistan’s government, and especially its military, is a mortal enemy of the US. They are one of the top state sponsors of terrorism, behind only Saudi Arabia. They put the Taliban in charge in Afghanistan, years ago. They overthrew their own democratically elected government. They ARE “Islamic extremists”.

And yet, all along, the idiots running US foreign policy have done nothing but facilitate this evil. We have sent them millions of dollars per year, becoming billions of dollars per year after the 9-11 attacks which, apparently, the Taliban government installed by Pakistan helped accomplish.

It was not terribly surprising for the Bush administration to continue the neocon policy of supporting our enemies in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, rewarding them for funding and teaching the terrorists who attack us…but it’s disappointing to see that the Obama administration is doing the same.

Swine Flu is Good for You

If you listen closely to the media/politico hype about h1n1, you will notice some insanity embedded in it.

For example: earlier, I heard someone say “the CDC reports that H1N1 has killed over 800 people, worldwide.”

During flu season, COMMON FLU kills over 800 people, in the US alone, every week.

In fact, H1N1 Novel, the famous “swine flu” of the panic this year, has a much lower mortality rate than the common flu. It was less than one third as deadly as common flu, but its mortality is falling even lower, as the number of cases snowballs, yet few new deaths are reported.

In fact, instead of getting vaccinated against H1N1 novel, we should be throwing Swine Flu Parties. As we should throw chickenpox parties for our children.

Why? Because the vaccine only protects you from one specific breed of influenza, and that only barely, while actually catching any flu, including the swine flu, strengthens your immune system against ALL forms of flu, while making you more immune to that one kind than a shot would have.

So if you catch H1N1 novel, which is less dangerous than the common flu, it will make you less likely to catch the common flu. Which means you’re less likely to die, if you catch swine flu. It’s actually safer to catch it, than not.

Personally, and I am serious, not exaggerating for rhetorical reasons, if I get the opportunity, I will go out of my way to catch it. Since I am not suffering from some disability that makes flu high-risk for myself, I most certainly do not weaken my immune system with flu shots, ever. And I see less reason than normal, this year, since H1N1 novel is safer than the common flu.

A New Source of (More Timely) Information

I appear to have a significant following for my blog, But Now You Know, as well as my post of the day sites, Words of the Sentient, and High Vocabulary Word of the Day. Unfortunately, the economic depression also has me working more hours on-site with my web dev/graphics company, Vorpalize.

I am going to try to continue to produce quotations and vocabulary words on a near-daily basis, although it may be somewhat more intermittent.

On the other hand, I have a very high standard for articles I post to But Now You Know. I prefer quality over quantity. Each article requires citations of sources, at least one unique graphic, preferably created by my self, and of course solid, relatively comprehensive rhetoric on the topic at hand.

I simply won’t have much time to do that…but I don’t want to deprive posterity of my unmitigated wisdom. Rather than compromise the quality of But Now You Know, I have therefore started this mini-blog. On a regular basis, perhaps even many times per day, I shall (hypothetically) post short assertions, refutations, et cetera, on socio-political topics. Comments about some media-covered political soundbite, the day’s hot issues, something a neocon talk show host said while I was driving home from a client’s site, et cetera.
